Yes — we recommend backing up your save files before switching to the Experimental branch, and any time you switch between versions. The Experimental branch is a work-in-progress test version, so there's always some risk of bugs or unexpected behavior affecting your saves. A backup is the best way to make sure your worlds stay safe.
Please also note that the import/export system will not work between versions, so you won't be able to carry saves across branches that way.
