Why is my game crashing on launch?
If Subnautica 2 crashes immediately after launching following a game update, and you have previously installed mods, they are the most likely cause.
Mods may not be compatible with the latest version of the game immediately after an update. Since mod creators need time to update their content, outdated mods can cause issues such as startup crashes or other unexpected behavior.
How can I fix it?
Please follow the steps below:
- Uninstall, disable, or remove all installed mods.
If you are using UE4SS to manage your mods, delete the following file:
Subnautica2\Binaries\Win64\dwmapi.dll Check the following folder for any remaining mod files and remove them:
Subnautica2\Content\Paks\~mods\ - Launch the game again to see if the issue has been resolved.
Note: Mods are created and maintained by third-party creators. Compatibility with new game updates depends on those creators releasing updated versions of their mods.
